To use Meta Insights, you need to configure two essential components: your Ad Account ID and API Key (Access Token). This page will guide you through the process step by step.
Configure Ad Account ID & API Key
Retrieve Ad Account ID
Your Ad Account ID is a unique identifier for your Meta advertising account.
Steps to Get Your Ad Account ID
- Open the Meta Business Suite at https://business.facebook.com
- Select your business account from the top menu
- Navigate to: Settings → Business Settings → Ad Accounts
- You will see your ad account along with the ID

- Copy this ID and enter it in the Meta Insights configuration in plemeo.ai
Generate API Key (Access Token) for a System User
The API Key allows plemeo.ai to securely access your Meta advertising data.
Steps to Generate API Key
Visit the Meta Developer Portal: https://developers.facebook.com
In the top-right dropdown, select your business or app
Go to: Business Settings → Users → System Users
If no system user exists, click "Add" to create a new system user
- Role: Administrator
After creating the user, click on the entry → "Generate Token"
Choose the associated app and assign permissions, such as:
ads_readads_management
- Click "Generate Token"
- The access token (API key) will now be displayed
- Copy this token and enter it in plemeo.ai under Meta Insights
Entering Configuration in plemeo.ai
Once you have both the Ad Account ID and API Key:
- Go to My Apps in plemeo.ai
- Find Meta Insights and click the gear icon
- Enter your Ad Account ID in the designated field
- Enter your API Key (Access Token) in the designated field
- Click "Save" to complete the configuration
Security Best Practices
API Key Security
- Never share your API key with unauthorized users
- Store it securely - plemeo.ai encrypts your API keys
- Regenerate regularly for enhanced security
- Use system users instead of personal accounts for business applications
Access Permissions
Only grant the minimum necessary permissions:
ads_read- For viewing campaign dataads_management- Only if you need to modify campaigns (usually not required for reporting)
Troubleshooting
Invalid Ad Account ID
If you receive an "Invalid Ad Account ID" error:
- Double-check the ID format (should be numeric)
- Ensure you're using the correct business account
- Verify you have access to the ad account
API Key Issues
If your API key isn't working:
- Ensure the system user has the correct permissions
- Check that the token hasn't expired
- Verify the app is associated with your business account
- Try regenerating the token
Can't Find Business Settings
If you can't access Business Settings:
- Ensure you have administrator access to the business account
- Check if you're logged into the correct Facebook account
- Contact your business account administrator
